XtraMile – Ride Sharing for the Rest of Us

XtraMile is a ride sharing service that anyone can use to get to and from anywhere in our service area. Our shuttle bus picks you up and takes you to wherever it is that you need to go right when you need it. Download the app and try it out.

XtraMile now operates in two service areas, the Shoreline XtraMile area and the NEW Middletown XtraMile area.


Middletown XtraMile Hours, Service Area & Fares

12 pm – 7 pm, Fridays – Saturdays
No Sunday Service

Pilot Program Dates: 

  • January 27 – May 20, 2023 

*This is a pilot program that will end on May 20, 2023. If the program is successful, the program may continue.  

XtraMile Middletown fares are $1.75 per trip. Wesleyan students ride free with a Wesleyan student ID.  

XtraMile Middletown will serve downtown Middletown and 17 additional stops located on Washington Street, on the Wesleyan University campus and on the north end. Stops and hours are subject to change during the pilot period.

Shoreline XtraMile Hours, Service Area & Fares

6 am – 8 pm, Monday – Friday
7:30 am – 6 pm, Saturdays
No Sunday Service

Fare: $1.75 per trip.

Fare may be paid through the app or by cash when boarding.

The Shoreline XtraMile service area includes Old Saybrook, Centerbrook, Essex village & the Essex Steam Train, and portions of Westbrook.


Who Can Ride?

Anyone can ride to anywhere within the service area or from a designated XtraMile stop. Download the app and try it out, or book online at https://ondemand.transloc.com.

The shuttle bus will also accept walk-on riders. If you see the shuttle bus, just walk over and get on — be sure to tell the driver where you need to go.

Our shuttle buses are equipped with wheelchair lifts and drivers are trained at helping people with disabilities.

How to Get Started

1 – Install the “Microtransit” app on your smartphone

2 – Follow the instructions for setting up an account

3 – Click where you want to go and confirm your trip details

The app will send you a notification when the shuttle bus is on its way to you.

4 – Get on board. Be Driven.
